Join me as I travel to Poland for The International Democracy Memory Bank Oral History Project. This project is a powerful resource for transmitting the testimonies of the world’s great democratic struggles from one generation to the next. The student-collected narratives are gathered from engaged citizens who have helped to advance rights and freedoms through their actions. Please check out the project at http://www.civicvoices.org/

Krakow, Solidarity Union, the Schindler Emalia Factory, and the Wawel Cathedral
We began the day with a breakfast meeting with representatives from the US Consul in Krakow. David Warner and Benjamin Ousely Naseman were pleased to learn of the Civic Voices Project in Poland and discussed ways the oral history project will complement the cultural programming of the Consul.
We then traveled with David to the Solodarity Union office for the Malopolska region in Krakow to meet with union activists. We enjoyed meeting the fine individuals who are working to educate teachers and students about labor law, and education rights and responsibilities.
We also visited the Schindler Emalia Factory in Podgorze; the museum exhibit on Krakow during the interwar years and the Krakow community's wartime experiences was phenomenal. The multimedia and multi-sensory presentations provided us with intense and profound impressions of life in Krakow for all who dwelled here. The exibit focuses on life of the Jewish community prior to and during occupation and on resistance efforts moved us deeply.
We later had a typical Polish meal at a lovely restaurant called Chlopskie Jadlo where we enjoyed good food and good company!
We also had the opportunity to visit the Wawel Castle complex and view the Cathedral's historic tombs.
